Best lifts in Powerlifting: equipped
National Submaster/Master's Championship Nov 7-8, 2009 Westwood High School Mesa, AZ
|
Fellow North Dakota lifters competed in the Master's
Nationals in Mesa, Az on Nov 7-8. Keith Berger, from
Grand Forks, lifted in the 181 lb M3(60-69) division.
Keith competed in powersports. This was his first
national meet and he started it with a 127 lb curl, which
set an American Record for his age group. Great Job!
Keith benched 253 and deadlifted 341 for a winning total
of 722. Keith's curl, deadlift and total are new ND
records. Keith said he learned alot from watching other
lifters and talking to many for training advice. I see big
lifts coming in the future!!
Gary Clock competed in the M3(60-69) 242 lb class. He
competed in unequipped powerlifting, lifting 462 in the
squat, 330 in the bench and 556 in the deadlift for a
winning total of 1350. All lifts established new World
records for his age group. The 556 deadlift broke an
American record.
Gary Clock also competed in equipped powerlifting with
lifts of 562 squat, 434 bench and a 556 deadlift for a
winning 1543 total. The bench press and total broke
World records.
Gary also lifted in powersports with a 148 curl, 330 bench
and a 556 deadlift for a 1036 total. The 556 deadlift was
both an American and World record for this division.
Gary also entered unequipped Bench only and set a new
World record with 330 lbs.
We had a good time and the weather was great!

The 2009 Can Am Powerlifting was one of the best meets we have had in years. We had many new lifters and some big lifts and totals. Meet director Norm Judd and his fellow referees (Brad Weber & Bill Johnson) did a fine job. Loaders, Spensor Danielson and Job Hou-Seye did an outstanding job of spotting and loading. Thanks, guys. Job drove all the way from from Wisconsin, where he is the NASA State Chairman to help out and to have his son, Samson lift in his 70th meet. Samson is only 9 years old! Thanks to our table staff who do a great job every time out. Announcer (Doreen Clock), scoring table (Kathie Eslinger), score board (Jen Kegley) were outstanding again. Marshall Johnson of Fargo was the star of the day with an outstanding 1819 total. Marshall did a fine 700 squat. Frank Tekautz of Fargo had the biggest deadlift of the day with 655 lbs. Marshall Johnson benched 485 for the biggest bench. Keith Berger of Grand Forks broke his own American Record in the curl at 132 lbs. Keith is a 61 year old stud power sports athlete. Keith was nominated as a 2009 National Athlete of the Year in M3 powersports. Congrats, Keith. Norm Judd was named the 2009 National Meet Director of the Year with the Jim Ayers Memorial award. Congrats, Norm! Gary has two nominations this year for 2009 National Athlete of the Year in M3 powerlifting and powersports. North Dakota is doing all right nationally. We had some really good looking young lifters like Adam Suedel of Grand Forks, Ben Schroeder of Dickinson, Nicholas Boll of Fargo, Matt Reed of Bismarck and Lee Huckle of Fargo that really impressed a lot of people at this meet. Keep up the great lifting, guys. We had two ladies who did a nice job, Erin Meiers of Grand Forks and Rita Tescher of Minot. We would like to have more ladies lift. More Pictures/Story click here
